If you love the DC Universe and the characters in it, then you will absolutely feel like you are a part of that universe while playing this game. And while I’m at it, I must mention the incredible comic series that was inspired by the game.

Sincerely, R. The game is fun. The combat is action oriented and relies more on player skill and control than just targeting something and pressing buttons till it is dead. Combat is fast paced, and enjoyable. The Instanced mission fights are really well planned out, and many of the boss fights are designed for using strategy and tactics, rather then straight up toe to toe brawling.

The missions are all story based, using DC characters, many with the same voice actors that have played them in movies and television. The cities of Gotham and Metropolis are huge and beautiful. The missions pull you right along, and there is very little grind. Character creation is good, but a bit limited.

Power sets are also a little more limited than what many would expect. They had mentioned several other sets being in the works prior to launch, but they weren’t finished and didn’t make the cut off point. Maybe they will get added in the future. The main story line missions are easily soloable.

In addition to those, there are also a few group alert mission that are instanced and take place in unique places like Area 51, Gorilla Island, or a Hive base on the moon.

There are also two types of PvP arena combat, one type you can play as your character, the other you can play as one of many DC iconic characters. Part of the is due to the console and PC versions being developed side by side, but more of it has to do with limitations of the Unreal engine that they used. The action combat comes at the price of a clean interface. Once you get used to it, it’s not that bad, but some will hate it. Certain things about the interface still annoy me.

The biggest part is how primitive the chat system is. It amazes me that Sony thought they could put out an MMO with such a weak chat interface. Though I really enjoy the gameplay, the game does not hold up well as an MMO.

There are only 30 levels, and they go by very quickly. You can easily get to 30 within a week. Now they said long ago that that was their plan, because they wanted to focus on endgame content. As good as that sounded, it didn’t come close to meeting expectations.

First of all, there is really only enough content for one character to run through. You start the game by picking a mentor, but all that really does is give you a different starting location and starting quest line. After that you get the same quests as everybody else. You end up working for the other mentors too. If you create another character, other than the starting missions, you will be getting the same missions as your other character.

Even changing factions, many of the heroes and villains get essentially the same quests, but from the other perspective. Basically, not a lot of replay value for alts.

The bigger problem is that all the story based quests stop at 30, and the city is more or less abandoned for instances.

What a waste. If you continue to solo, all you have are repeats of missions you have already played, at lower levels, that slightly bumped in difficulty to accommodate your new level. The exact same missions. If you have more than one character, this will bore you to tears. Originally the Halloween content was a version of the Scarecrow mission based in Gotham Sewers under the title Halloween Spook-tacular.

However the player reaction to the event was largely negative due to it being seen as a rehash of an existing mission. The following year the content was replaced by a new event titled The Witching Hour. The new content featured an open world mission for all players and a 4-player Alert called The Midnight Masquerade, in which players must face off against Klarion the Witch Boy and his pet cat Teekl. This Christmas themed event features the Orange Lantern, Larfleeze , as he seeks to steal all the Christmas presents, trees and cakes for himself.

Players can partake in an open world mission to retrieve those items from Larfleeze’s Orange Lantern constructs, as well as take on Larfleeze directly in a 4-player Alert. As of , all players were granted a special Christmas tree base item which gives out daily rewards over the 12 days of Christmas.

In addition to the usual feats, styles and base items, the content also rewards players with snowballs which they can use to have snowball fights with each other. DC Universe Online is, in fact, pretty awesome in that it is a pretty good looking game and the combat system isn’t all too bad either. The character creation system is fairly good also, but I do wish there was a bit more variety then what is readily available. As for the powers, there are some interesting choices to pick from and what I thought was pretty cool is the ability to be able to pick up powers of real DC Heroes and Villains. About the only fault that I can really level against this game is the camera system, which automatically moves around as you move your mouse.

While this does take some getting use to, after a couple of hours of play and you probably won’t even remember that this was an issue. Let us start by saying I am not a DC fan. I am actually not much of a comic book reader, even young I only read hard cover books. So when Let us start by saying I am not a DC fan.

So when people go bug-eyed at wonder woman, with all the comic book baggage of their youth, all I see is some dude in a nice costume. Go figure. So let us start by the technicals. The launcher do not do a great job to show you how far you are it only give you a number like 6. But otherwise it is OK.

Disclosure : my max Char level is 15 among 4. I have played since the 14th and it is today the 18th. The sound effect average, but OK enough for dungeon romp. Graphic : The model are good but not really great. You won’t be paying too much attention to them in the heat of action. The environment are bland and a tad bit repetitive by zone, but change from zone to zone, while still staying urban high rise zone, industrial zone, university zone , small shopping district zone, Chinatown zone etc I think the graphic are good enough, but do not offer much up to level 15 difference.

Speaking with a level 30 gave me the impression this stay the same all the game long. Not many option there, and unless you release vsynch, you are limited to 30 fps, and you have to trick around to add AA, but frankly that did not disturb me.

As said, good graphic, but far away from being tip top hi tech. Gameplay : button smashing. I tried a few of the combo to see if it made a difference, and it sure did, but OTOH the fact that you have to remember half a dozen combination of tap and hold make it easier for people to use mostly 1 or 2. Sure I betcha I would get killed in pvp over and over, once people learn to combo and combo break, but come on.

Tap 9 time then hold? What the heck. Remind me of mortal combat. Content get repetitive in mission. Kill 20, gather 10, kill 15, repeat and rinse. Thankfully the story if you pay attention to it is stopping the gameplay to think too far.

Anyway probably my own fault for finding the combo system too complicated. There are a lot of common quest line, but the 6 sets of different power give replaybility. And two side, villain and heroes. OTOH you level pretty damn quick, I am a few day in and i have 3 level 10 char and 1 level 4 I tried different power set, fire, ice, nature, and sorcery.

The main problem is that the gameplay is always the same, and the quest don’t seem to be different at level 1 or 15, only the mob level. Character creation : average at best. There is no much allowed except different skin and hair, and 3 sizes. Otherwise you pretty rapidely see people use the same combo. For example be it male or female with a rock skin, if you cover it all with a spandex, and a mask , that does not make sense. So most people with a different skin go with clothing showing that skin off.

So I see a lot of dupes outside.
