When you open printer preferences from another software, it just affects the current session. The settings are restored the next time you run the software. If you modify the paper orientation here, it will become the default.

You must enable color printing in MS Word. Sometimes this default option can be turned off of for instance you have cleared your cache data or you fiddled with some presets linked to print preferences which resulted in the print color option not working correctly, another reason for this occurring is your printer may have been altered to only print in black and white and therefore inputs that information over to the Office preference panel that finds the most appropriate option to print.

If you still find your printings to be black and white, you may need to look at your printer and adjust the color preferences on there. Most printer settings provide for a tiny, evenly spaced margin on both the right and left edges of the paper by default. However, if your settings have been changed, your papers will continue to print in this manner until you correct the problem. You might be able to use Windows printing help and troubleshooters to resolve the printing problem:. Type printer problems , and then select Find and fix problems with printing. If Word is the only program on your computer that cannot print, be aware that Word is a very printer-intensive program. Therefore, a minor problem in the printer driver tends to affect Word before it affects other programs. To determine whether the printer driver is the cause of the problem, you can test different drivers.

If the Word printing problem occurs only when you print documents that use a certain font or a specific type of graphics image, try to print to another printer. If no other printer is available, contact the manufacturer to determine whether there is an updated version of the driver or a different driver for your printer model.

If the Word printing problem occurs even when you print documents that contain only text, you can use a generic, text-only printer driver to test printing from Word. To do this, follow these steps for your version of Windows. On some versions of Windows, these steps may require access to the Windows installation CD-ROM or access to a network drive that contains the Windows installation files.

Make sure that the Use an existing port check box is selected, change the dropdown option to File: Print to file , and then select Next. In the Manufacturers list, select Generic , and then select Next. Leave the default printer name, select Next , and then select Finish. When the driver installation is complete, open a document in Word, and then do the following, as appropriate for your situation:. Under Printing Options select Print background colors and images. The Print background colors and images check box in the Word options dialog box. You must enable color printing in MS Word. Out of the blue, one of the PC’s here at the office has decided that it doesn’t want to print in color when printing from one of the Office products Word, Excel, etc. This is happening on two separate printers of the same model. Print preview is shown in color. Printer is connected via USB and formerly wifi, though that didn’t work either. I can successfully print in color from Office suite from a different PC.

Also, check the printer defaults. Once upon a time Microsoft updated IE v2 which broke some part of their rendering library for PDF so I had similar trouble as you describe. I could print to the device — which was postscript – with success from various applications until I used one like Word that did used the broken library.

Didn’t solve it until I understood that and let Microsoft update IE again. In the meantime I created another printer that used different drivers to create its postscript and that worked around it.

So various things to suggest. Try printing from different browsers. Especially Chrome or the new Edge. Check if Edge or IE 11 is on one computer and not the other. As my situation also was about printing from Windows to Linux on different computers, I did have the option of digging into the jobs as they passed through queues and systems over to the printer server. I could get a program to render and display the file on my screen.

You mentioned you reinstalled print drivers, but you didn’t mention what drivers you installed. Have you tried different print drivers such as PCL vs. As a rule you should use PCL since it is more compatible with most Windows apps. Shouldn’t that be “out of the black” instead of “out of the blue”? Like it has been mentioned try printing from other programs other than office to see if it is a MS office issue or something else. Can other computers print to it okay when it is connected to this PC? Does the printer self-test print okay? Printer works perfectly when connected to other PCs. When connected to the problem PC, the printer prints in color in every application other than Office.
